Caution: The following are Eden's urgent necessities and recommendations before acquiring or using any essential oil:
As with all agricultural products these days, quality essential oils are very rare. Important: not all are made equal, far from it. Most available today are not pure or authentic. They have either been cut with other substances, rectified, deterpened, adulterated, or else contain synthetic carrier oils. Most of the time they are lacking information as to their precise content and proper usage. The user therefore finds him/herself with a potentially hazardous product with no guarantee concerning its origin and its therapeutic potential.
Eden Foods strongly encourages you to thoroughly investigate the source, exactly how they are made, and the precise content of any essential oil that you intend to purchase or use. Make sure that the ingredients are certified as pure essential oil. Organically grown is always a plus.
- Do not leave any bottle of essential oil within the reach of children. Put them away with care.
- Should you accidentally get some essential oil in your eye, do not use water to rinse it, but apply some vegetable oil immediately. Use the first oil you can find, it will immediately soothe the inflammation. Contact your physician immediately.
- If a child mistakenly absorbs a large amount of essential oil (a 5 ml bottle, for example), call the nearest Poison Control Center immediately.
- Essential oils are for external use only. Never take them internally. Always keep out of reach of children and animals. Avoid contact with eyes, ears, and mouth.
- Although we have carefully chosen essential oils that are considered to be mild for our bath salts and body polish recipes, some oils such as ginger, cinnamon leaf, clove, and nutmeg can be irritating to the skin, especially the face and neck for those with very sensitive skin.
- If itching or irritation from an essential oil results, discontinue use immediately and remove with soap and water. A good rule of thumb to follow in testing for a reaction to specific essential oils is to do a patch test. Apply a very small amount of diluted (in a carrier vegetable oil) essential oil on the tender skin inside the elbow and leave for 24 hours. If no reaction, it is probably safe for your skin type. Always use sparingly and always dilute in vegetable quality carrier oil or with salt before using. Do not use on the face or near the eyes.
- Completely avoid or use extreme caution if pregnant, nursing, or are suffering from serious health conditions especially epilepsy, heart conditions, environmental illness and low or high blood pressure. Consult a medical doctor or licensed aromatherapy professional before using any essential oil for your specific health condition. Essential oils can be toxic if misused.
- Essential oils are not recommended for babies and children without qualified advice, as many essential oils are known to be irritating.
- Do not use essential oils if under the influence of alcohol or within several hours before or after drinking as they may cause nausea or other side effects.
- It is not recommended to use any citrus essential oils before tanning or exposure to sunlight, as they are reactive to ultraviolet rays.
