Men's Health 125 Best Foods for Men

Clinton, Michigan - The world's largest men's magazine, Men's Health has selected EDEN Organic Refried Beans for the second time as the BEST for flavor and nutrition.

In the June, 2006 article "125 Best Foods for Men," Men's Health rated Eden Organic Refried Kidney Beans as the Best Refried Beans for having great flavor, being heart healthy, promoting weight loss, and offering "The highest fiber with the least amount of sodium" among all other brands of refried beans.

"Every year, more than 10,000 new products make their way onto grocery store shelves," the authors explain. "The result is an ever more confusing marketplace. To clear the aisles, we employed the Men's Health nutrition advisors and the staff of our in-house test kitchen, along with the latest in food science research, to determine which foods were the healthiest."

"Then we ate them all, to see if they passed the only test that really matters - the taste test. And that's how we found the best foods in 125 categories that matter most to men. Call it the Men's Health grocery list ... All that's required is the willingness to seek out new food: ones that not only taste better, but are better for you, too. And that's a two for one deal that can change your life."

In choosing Eden as the Best Refried Beans, Men's Health was assisted by a 20 member advisory board made up of medical doctors and professors, all leading national experts in the fields of Alternative Medicine, Cardiology, Dermatology, Exercise Science, Gastroenterology, Mental Health, Nutrition, Sports Medicine, Urology, and Weight Loss. Each expert joined in rating Eden Organic Refried Beans number one, among them David Katz, M.D., director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale University and author of the book, The Way to Eat.

Eden Organic Beans are USA family farm organically grown, expertly prepared, kosher certified beans. They come in 23 varieties: 12 with no salt added, five seasoned, and six refried. All are a good or excellent source of fiber and provide a wealth of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Eden Organic Refried Kidney Beans are a delicious puree of dark red kidney beans with chunks of whole beans, lightly salted with the finest sea salt and cooked without spices. Ideal in Mexican cooking and as a side dish they are ready to heat and serve, or add flair and 'heat' with your choice of seasonings. They are low in fat with zero saturated fat, cholesterol free, an excellent source of dietary fiber, and a good source of protein, potassium, iron, and magnesium.

June 2006 is the second time Eden Organic Refried Beans have been recognized as Best by Men's Health. In 2004, the magazine described these beans as "smooth and well blended, without the lard that weighs down other varieties." The same year Eden Refried Beans were chosen as favorite by a panel of children and their parents in a taste test and product comparison sponsored by Child Magazine. "Many brands of refried beans go heavy on the fat and sodium," Child explained, "but Eden's dark red kidney beans have just 1g of fat and 180mg of sodium per half cup and plenty of fiber and potassium." Eden Beans also receive the highest ranking for flavor and nutrition by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI). The non profit organization's Nutrition Action Healthletter most recently rated Eden Refried Beans as 'Best Buy' and number one for nutrition among 38 brands with salt added. CSPI's expert panels consistently praise Eden's great flavor, high fiber, low fat, and low sodium.
