Clinton, Michigan - Eden Foods expands its fruit line with NEW Organic Apple Cherry Sauce and Organic Apple Cherry Butter, and announces organic certification of Eden Montmorency Tart Cherry Juice and Butter.

Eden Organic Apple Cherry Sauce and Apple Cherry Butter (and all of Eden's fruit and juice line) are simply apples and cherries, organically grown on family owned orchards on the shores of the Great Lakes. After years of organic management the healthy trees and soil in these beautiful orchards produce the most delicious fruit. No sugar or other sweeteners are added, no chemical 'press aids' employed; just the world's best fruit and traditional methods providing better flavor, better nutrition, and pure peace of mind.

The 'cherry' in Eden Apple Cherry Sauce and Apple Cherry Butter is a powerfully concentrated puree of organic Montmorency tart cherries. They are washed, pitted and kettle cooked until the puree reaches 30 brix (sweetness; a hydrometer scale for measuring the sugar content of a solution). Thirty is a remarkably high brix, especially to be reached solely from organic fruit with no other sweetener added or short cut taken.

Eden Organic Apple Cherry Sauce starts with a select blend of apples that are hand sorted, washed, peeled, cored, chopped and sliced, then slowly cooked into sauce in a stainless steel cooker. The sauce is strained, blended with Eden's organic Montmorency tart cherry puree and packaged in glass jars. Eden Organic Apple Cherry Sauce is a healthy anytime snack, dessert, or side dish. It's fat free, sodium free, and high in fiber.

Over four pounds of apples go into every jar of new Eden Organic Apple Cherry Butter. Organic apples are sorted, washed, peeled, cored and chopped. A small amount of Eden's Organic Apple Juice Concentrate is added to the apples, which are then patiently kettle simmered until perfect. The apple butter is blended with Eden's organic Montmorency tart cherry puree and packaged into glass jars. Eden Organic Apple Cherry Butter is a tangy, sweet spread that's great on oatmeal and cereal, on toast, pancakes and waffles, and in batter for moist, flavorful baked goods. Eden Foods also announces that all Eden Cherry Juice and Cherry Butter produced as of March 2004 is now 100 percent certified organic. This achievement is the culmination of years of effort by organic growers working with Eden's Purchasing Department.

The USDA has identified 35 insecticides, fungicides, and weed killers sprayed on apples, chemicals the Environmental Protection Agency considers hazardous, so it is especially important to choose certified organic apples and apple sauce, apple butter, and apple juice from a brand you trust.

Wherever Montmorency cherries have grown for generations, locals attest to their ability to ease symptoms of chronic aches and pain, arthritis, and gout. Michigan State University researchers found that anthocyanins, natural anti-inflammatory compounds found in Montmorencies, are 10 times more potent than aspirin. Anthocyanins, along with Montmorency bioflavonoids, inhibit the human pain hormone prostaglandin and reduce uric acid buildup associated with arthritis and gout. Montmorencies are a powerful source of at least 17 antioxidants, including quercetin, allagic acid, perillyl alcohol, and melatonin.
