Eaton, Indiana – Meridian Foods of Eaton, Indiana celebrates its 50th anniversary having sustained preparation of the finest canned beans since its first day of production September 29, 1964. Over the past 50 years Meridian Foods has enjoyed a reputation for the best 'fill and finish' in the bean canning industry.
Meridian Foods' facility, completely refurbished 2011 through 2014, specializes in canned beans in brines and sauces. All of the beans are soaked overnight and then canned and retort cooked. Patient, time-honored preparation gives Meridian's beans home-cooked character that they are famous for.
In 1991, Meridian Foods became an Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) certified organic processor. Eden Foods, an independent natural/organic food company based in Clinton, Michigan purchased Meridian in Autumn 1994. Today, the facility produces 25 varieties of canned organic EDEN beans, plain and seasoned, along with refried beans, rice & beans, and chilies, in many different sizes. EDEN brand foods made at Meridian have been in custom bisphenol-A (BPA), bisphenol-S (BPS), and PVC free lined cans since April 1999. Meridian and Eden Foods work with their custom can supplier, the Ball Corporation, as their processing authority. Meridian also prepares canned beans for La Preferida and Earth Fare brands.
In addition to organic certification, Meridian is kosher certified and provides gluten free processing. As a result of their singular focus on preparing beans, Meridian Foods consistently produces the finest there is. They employ 43 full-time workers and they each contribute to the fine reputation that Meridian Foods enjoys.
