Clinton, Michigan - Eden Foods was honored with the Socially Responsible Business Award on 13 October 2001.
Eden Chairman and President, Michael Potter, received the award on behalf of Eden at a breakfast ceremony attended by hundreds at Natural Products Expo East in Washington, D.C. The award, in its seventh year, is sponsored by Khalsa International Industries and Trades and other respected natural products businesses to recognize companies and individuals that are exemplary in upholding socially responsible business practices.
Nominees and recipients of the Socially Responsible Business Award are chosen based on the Social Venture Network's Standards of Corporate Responsibility. A panel of judges assesses companies according to nine categories: Ethics, Accountability, Governance, Financial Returns, Employment Practices, Business Relationships, Products and Services, Community Involvement, and Environmental Protection. The Standards of Corporate Responsibility are the culmination of three years of collective work by the Social Venture Network. They were conceived in response to the growing consensus that companies and organizations have an obligation to operate ethically, and in socially and environmentally responsible ways.
Mr. Potter said Eden is honored to receive the Socially Responsible Business Award because it recognizes the value in how Eden Foods improves our society through our work and how we go about it. Upon receiving the award he said, "First and foremost, I would like to thank Eden's customers and employees."
Part of the selection process included a review of product samples. Eden submitted an all organic lineup to each judge: Edensoy Extra Original, Rye Spiral Pasta, Spicy Pinto Beans, Cherry Juice, Diced Tomatoes with Green Chilies, Mustard, Traditionally Brewed Shoyu Soy Sauce, and Bancha Green Tea. The food samples tell Eden's story in a way far beyond words, Mr. Potter explained, because the quality of Eden's actions are reflected in the quality of the food we offer.
