Turmeric Curcuma longa - a bright yellow spice from the dried, ground root of a South Asian plant related to the ginger family. It is widely used in Indian, South Asian, and Middle Eastern cooking. In medieval Europe it was often known as 'Indian saffron' because it was widely substituted for expensive saffron. It has a mild peppery, bitter flavor, and mild fragrance that is slightly reminiscent of ginger. It is most frequently used in making curries and Indian dhal. It gives yellow mustard its bold color. It is used in egg salad, rice dishes, curries, and lentils, and is especially nice in salad dressing imparting a bright yellow/orange. It combines well with cumin, cinnamon, and coriander. It is used in making curry powder blends along with cinnamon, coriander, cloves, chilies, cumin, pepper, fenugreek, and other spices. Organically grown in India. Protective amber glass jar. kosher pareve
