It is from the fruit or berry called peppercorns which grow in grape-like clusters on a vine pepper (not capsicum varieties) native to Asia. There are three types of pepper: black, white, and green. Black is the strongest in flavor and is hot with a hint of sweetness. It is used in most cuisines and goes well with just about any dish - grain, bean, vegetable, pasta, fish, seafood, poultry, and meat, and is used in soups, stews, salads, sautés and stir-fries, salad dressing, marinades, sauces, gravy, and in pickling.
