EDENSOY Chocolate is made of EDEN selected fair-trade, organically grown cocoa from the Dominican Republic finely milled in Holland and 100 percent organic soybeans from our dedicated local family farm network. We know each grower and visit their farms, fields, and families regularly. Their ingenious tending over decades has created rich, vital soil that produces food brimming with energy, great taste, and superior nutrition.
Soy protein requires more thoughtful preparation than dairy protein and thorough cooking to transform it into easy to digest, nutritious food. EDENSOY Chocolate is expertly made at our certified organic Michigan plant using 240 continuous quality control checks and years of research into how to best choose soybeans and cook them. From the double reverse osmosis purified water, to the patented enzyme invalidator, to the Swedish aseptic packaging equipment, every step contributes to greater value and the best possible nourishment.
In an extensive year-and-a-half researched Organic Soy Scorecard, Eden Foods earned the highest score, 955 out of 1,000, among 62 North American soy foods brands. The Cornucopia Institute, an objective independent research and advocacy organization dedicated to preserving organic integrity and creating economic justice for family farmers, released the report May 2009. Soyfoods were rated on ten criteria including sourcing, stringency of organic certifier, and prevention of GMO and chemical contamination. Eden Foods was declared a hero in the organic soy industry. As soy became popular for health benefits in the late 80s and 90s many commercial food processors rushed through a series of short cuts to exploit it. Though labeled 'healthy' most soy foods are made using cheap processes and ingredients, cheap imported organic? soy and grain, isolated soy protein hexane extracted and treated with a catalog of toxic petrochemicals, and other unsavory additives. Most use undeclared chemical flavor maskers and refined sugars. Evaporated or dried cane juice is sugar, and organic sugar is an oxymoron. EDENSOY is a wise choice for those seeking high quality pure food.
Eden established a policy banning genetically engineered organisms (GEOs or GMOs) and their derivatives in February 1993. EDEN is your best assurance of freedom from genetically engineered experiments and their derivatives. Meticulous audit trails and tests at the farm, storage elevator, and maker guarantee the purity of EDENSOY. When the New York Times tested eleven soy and corn based foods only one tested GEO free - EDENSOY.
EDENSOY's aseptic cartons are over 70% renewable, recyclable paperboard from certified responsibly managed forests. Their most valuable benefit to the planet is that they require no refrigeration in transport or storage. To take a food that requires no refrigeration and make it into one isn't a good idea. According to the EPA greenhouse gas emissions from refrigerated transport have increased exponentially since the 1990s. EDENSOY does not contribute to this problem. Soybeans have been important human food for over 5,000 years. Western science is confirming whole soy as one of the healthiest foods. In 1999 the FDA recognized the role of soy in reducing cholesterol saying, "25 grams of soy protein a day, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease." In EDENSOY this protein comes from the whole bean rather than from isolates as in many other brands. Also, "Diets low in sodium may reduce the risk of high blood pressure, a disease associated with many factors." EDENSOY Chocolate is low in saturated fat and sodium, cholesterol free, and contains 8 grams of whole soy protein with 50 mg of naturally occurring soy isoflavones per serving. It is a good source of calcium, iron, niacin B3, vitamin B6, folate B9, iodine, magnesium, and copper.
Research finds chocolate, particularly cocoa powder, contains healthy antioxidant flavonoids called flavonols including procyanidins, epicatechins and catechins. Joe Vinson, Ph.D., chemistry professor at University of Scranton states, “Think real cocoa. Pure cocoa powder (not instant hot chocolate) has the most antioxidants, followed by dark chocolate, then milk chocolate.”
Use EDENSOY Chocolate for hot or cold beverages, smoothies, freeze pops, and desserts. Use it cup for cup when substituting for dairy milk. |
