Three North American family organic whole grains - oats, rye, and spelt wheat roasted and rolled into flakes and mixed with 100% organic dried fruit and seeds. Sweet tangy raisins, dried wild blueberries, and dried cranberries add delightful flavor and antioxidant value. Roasted, lightly salted organic pumpkin and raw sunflower seeds lend a rich crunch and nutrition. Enjoy this cereal cold, hot, right out of the bag, any time of day, or use it in baked goods. Very low sodium. Rich in magnesium and a good source of protein, fiber, and thiamin B1.
Muesli is a traditional breakfast cereal in Europe made of rolled oats with dried fruits, nuts, and seeds. Organic EDEN Muesli is different in having three 100% organic whole grain rolled flakes - U.S.A. family farm oats, rye, and spelt wheat. Sweet tangy organic raisins, dried wild blueberries, and dried organic cranberries add delightful flavor. Roasted, lightly salted organic pumpkin and raw sunflower seeds lend richness, crunch, and nutrition.
Whole grain organic oats, rye, and spelt are sprayed with filtered deep well water before being separately gas fired, ceramic kiln roasted. While still hot the whole grain is stainless steel rolled into flakes, bagged, and shipped to Eden's Michigan facility. Here they are mixed with the dried fruit and seeds. After blending the muesli is packed in a reclosable package chosen for its protective oxygen, moisture, and light barrier qualities that best retain freshness, flavor, and nutrients. EDEN Muesli contains no sulfites, added sugars, or preservatives.
Muesli was first made around 1900 by Swiss physician Dr. Maximillian Bircher-Benner and his wife for patients in their hospital. A diet rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables was an essential part of their patients' therapy. It was traditionally served as a cold cereal eaten with fresh lemon juice, but there are many more preparation styles today.
Scientists at the USDA Human Nutrition Research Center at Tufts University say, "Whole grain helps regulate blood sugar by slowing down the conversion of complex carbohydrates into sugar. In fact, low-glycemic index food such as whole grain reduces hunger and can help to control weight." Scientists at the Agriculture Research Service completed a study of more than 2,000 people concluding, "at least three or more servings of whole grain everyday could reduce the chances of developing metabolic syndrome - a condition marked by a combination of abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, poor blood sugar control, low HDL 'good' cholesterol and high blood fats." EDEN Muesli is organic whole grain cereal that is cholesterol free, very low sodium, rich in magnesium, and a good source of protein, fiber, and thiamin B1. A satisfying bowl of EDEN Muesli in the morning provides lasting energy and sets a positive tone for the day.
Recipes & Serving Suggestions
Cold Cereal: Soak 1/2 cup EDEN Muesli in 1/2 cup EDENSOY™, EDEN Apple Juice, or water for about 10 minutes. For softer cereal, soak overnight and top with slices of fresh fruit when served
Hot Cereal: Place 1/2 cup EDEN Muesli in 1 cup boiling water or EDEN Apple Juice. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer until soft or creamy, 3 to 10 minutes, as you wish. Fresh fruit on top is always nice.
EDEN Muesli also makes a great snack straight from the bag and can be used as a baking mix for cookies, scones, muffins, and bread. See free recipes at edenfoods.com.
