Cook pasta as per package directions. While the pasta is cooking, place olive oil, salt and red pepper flakes in a skillet and heat up. Sauté onion until almost golden. Add garlic and artichokes. Sauté until just browned. Pour in water or broth and artichoke liquid. Add olives and tomatoes. Gently simmer 5 minutes. Remove pasta and drain. Place pasta in a large bowl, pour sauce over and gently toss. Season to taste with freshly ground black pepper and gently mix.
