Clinton, Michigan - Eden expands its offering of American family farm, fiber rich snack food with new Organic Popcorn.
Eden Organic Popping Corn is certified organically grown by a group of Midwest organic family farms. It is a carefully selected yellow corn variety with a superior popping quality that produces large, fluffy, tender, melt in your mouth popped kernels.
After harvest Eden Popcorn is carefully handled from the farm to a certified organic mill with thorough popcorn expertise. Precise practices are used to retain moisture and to ensure that the kernels are not scratched or damaged. Arriving directly from the mill the corn is packaged at Eden's AIB rated 'Superior', Clinton, Michigan facility in a resealable standing pouch designed to retain its moisture.
Popcorn's unique popping ability comes from the water stored in the soft starchy endosperm inside its hard outer shell or pericarp. Heating creates pressure as the water expands. When the outer shell cracks the kernel explodes, the water escapes as steam, and puffs the endosperm turning the kernel inside out.
American Indians enjoyed popcorn for thousands of years. Tomb excavations in Peru uncovered 1,000 year old popcorn so well preserved that it still popped. Before the exploration of the Great Lakes region the Iroquois popped corn in pottery crocks over heated sand. To this day popcorn is considered one of America's favorite, most pleasurable snack foods.
Eden Organic Popcorn is an excellent source of dietary fiber, providing energy packed complex good carbohydrates. It is naturally low in fat, contains no saturated fat or cholesterol, is low sodium, and is a source of potassium, protein, and iron. You decide what goes on or into it. Are you aware that conventional, non-organic popcorn is one of the top ten foods most contaminated with pesticides and agricultural chemicals? According to the USDA and FDA's 1999 Total Diet Study, non-organic popcorn is listed as containing chlordane, dieldrin and toxaphene. These chemicals are in a class known as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that have been found to have serious health implications even at the slightest exposure levels. They not only effect humans but have also been linked to the decline of bird and aquatic species.
Eden Organic Popcorn is grown and handled without artificial additives, preservatives, pesticides, herbicides, fumigants, or any other chemicals ... a healthier choice for you and yours, and far better for our shared environment.
Eden Organic Popping Corn is kosher parve and comes in a 20 ounce, standing pouch, 12 to a case with a suggested retail price of $2.89. Refrigerate the resealable bag after opening to retain optimum popping moisture.
